# Dark mode

This theme supports Dark mode and Automatic dark mode. The option is enabled by default and works with all color schemes except **Dark**.

### Step-by-step:

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Go to **"Design & branding"** in Ghost Admin and click **"Customize"**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
In the theme settings tab, find the **"Dark mode"** toggle under the **Site wide** section.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Toggle the option as needed.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Click **"Save"** to apply your changes.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

A dark-mode switch appears in the header (*mobile menu*) and footer, allowing visitors to switch between light and dark modes. When the **"Dark"** color scheme is selected, dark mode stays active by default and the switch is hidden.

### Automatic dark mode

If a visitor hasn’t used the dark-mode switch, this theme follows the device or browser system appearance (**light** or **dark**). After a manual toggle, the visitor’s selection overrides the system preference.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.ektothemes.com/guides/craft/customization/site-wide/dark-mode.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
